CORSHAM 7 DORCHESTER 3

DORCHESTER had to settle for a losing bonus point at Corsham in a low scoring match that they could easily have won.

This was a game dominated by defences with both sides creating try-scoring positions only to fail to break through to the whitewash.

Rich Bament was narrowly wide with a long-range penalty for the visitors before Dorchester and the hosts had a try chalked off as the ball was held up over the line on each occasion.

The half-time interval arrived with the scoreboard untroubled.

Dorchester’s kick to start the second period failed to make the required 10 metres and the visitors were immediately on the back foot.

Corsham camped in their 22 and one of their centres eventually forced his way over the try line for what was to prove the deciding score.

The visitors eventually opened their account with a Bament penalty but, despite having a man advantage for 10 minutes, they were unable to break Corsham’s resolute defence and had to settle for the losing bonus point.

The county town side remain one place off the foot of the table and host league leaders Wells at Coburg Road next – the Somer- set outfit thrashed rock bottom Ivel Barbarians 51-0 last Satur-day.
