DORCHESTER Town suffered yet another postponement on Saturday but assistant-manager Stuart Heath reckons a build-up of fixtures could ultimately help a side in their position.

The Magpies were saved what would have been a wasted trip to Essex at the weekend thanks to an early morning pitch inspection at Chelmsford City’s Melbourne Stadium.

It was the Dorset club’s fourth Skrill South game in little more than a month to be called off because of the wet weather, and that doesn’t include the rearranged Hayes match that was abandoned last Tuesday.

But while postponements will inevitably mean more midweek fixtures between now and the end of the season, Heath feels it is a situation that may work in the Magpies’ favour.

“It was a bit disappointing on Saturday,” he said. “It felt like a waste of a day, though there’s not a lot you can do about the weather.

“But with games coming thick and fast the league table can change very quickly.

“We have got a bigger squad now than earlier in the season and that gives us a chance to go on a run.

“Everyone in the dressing room is fully committed to making sure we are not in the bottom three come the end of the season.

“If we are able to do that it would be a fantastic achievement.

“If we are going to do that we need to go on a run and with games close together there is every possibility.

“It’s never ideal to have a lot of fixtures in a short space of time but everyone is in the same boat.”

A huge game awaits Dorchester when they go to Farnborough on Saturday, with Magpies players, staff and fans hoping for a positive result to kick-start their push for survival.

“We’ll get two good training sessions in this week and be fully prepared for what is a really crucial game on Saturday,” added Heath.

“We play Farnborough twice between now and the end of the season and we have to make sure we pick up points in both of those.

“We got 15 points in the first half of the season with an unsettled squad and we need 20-25 in the second half with a settled squad, so it’s possible.”
