MARK Ford cannot wait to get back and fight for his place at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Weymouth striker recently underwent a successful operation on his broken foot and is hoping to return to action as soon as possible.

Ford, who suffered the injury against Corby Town on January 11, told Echosport: “It isn’t too bad now and slowly but surely we are getting there.

“I am on crutches and there is a boot on it at the moment to keep it all in place.

“The fact it didn’t require a cast was quite good as I want to try and stay fit and keep swimming.

“The doctors are going to continue monitoring it and, at the moment, I am still not sure how long it will be before I can get back playing. I have spoken to Jason Matthews and Paul Maitland, and they have just said to take it easy.

“Hopefully I will be back in about a month but we will just have to see how it goes.”

Due to the recent wet weather, Ford has only missed two games since suffering the triple break, although during that time there have been a couple of changes in personnel.

He added: “Jason Matthews has come in with fresh ideas and he is now looking to get them across.

“He has brought in some top young players and I have no doubts that good results will follow.

“We have got a few games in hand on the teams above us and once we get some consistency going I am sure we will start climbing further up the table.

“When a new manager comes in everyone wants to impress and there are still plenty of games left for people to do that.

“Everyone is now fighting for their shirt and that is exactly what you want.

“It’s an exciting time and I am just itching to get back out there playing again.”
