MERLEY COBHAM SPORTS 0 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

JAKE Richmond was a proud man on Saturday after his reserve team pulled off a remarkable victory at Merley Cobham Sports.

Lee Sharpe’s sublime header was enough to take the three points and move the Terras to the top of the table, but it was the nature of the success that had the delighted manager waxing lyrical at the final whistle.

Richmond told Echosport: “I am so proud of every single one of them.

“We have gone top now but I am not bothered about that.

“We started with two teenagers in the centre of midfield in Gareth Will (18) and Luke Chatt-erton (16), with Brad Asagba holding because of his exper-ience, and all of them were fantastic.

“There was a lot of niggling off the ball and it was quite a physical game but the younger ones weren’t intimidated and dealt with it.

“All the youngsters were so brave and in the end I thought we thoroughly deserved the win.”

The game witnessed very few chances with Weymouth keeper Ryan Park having just one save to make throughout the 90 min- utes.

The best opportunities fell to the Terras with new signing Conor Jevon forcing the home stopper into a fantastic save just a couple of minutes in.

Sharpe then glanced in a corner from Sean Zima for the only goal on 38 minutes before the second half offered the odd half chance but nothing else.

Richmond added: “It was very much a midfield battle and I thought everyone did their bit.

“The whole group were so professional and as a result they got their reward.

“No one moaned about being left out the side and the three lads that came on all made an impact.

“We are never going to win the league but to be up there at the top end is really pleasing, and the added confidence from that can only help these players continue to develop.”

The Terras now sit two points clear of local rivals Portland United at the summit but they have played three games more.

Hamworthy Recreation and Merley are also two points adrift with one game in hand.

Terras: Park, Sharpe, Butcher, Anstey, Zima, Preece, G Will, Asagba (J Will 75), Chatterton (Harvey 60), Nichols, Jevon (P Ford 70).
