Under-15 Division Three

PORTLAND TOWN 31

WOOL & WINFRITH PHOENIX 0

YOUR eyes are not deceiving you, the score in this football match really was 31-0 – a result any rugby team would have been proud of.

All 10 of Portland’s outfield players were on the scoresheet and no fewer than seven netted a hat-trick or better.

Debutant Jordan Outhwaite opened the scoring five minutes in and, from that point on, the floodgates were well and truly open.

Ty Scammell headed in the first of his five-goal haul to make it 2-0, Outhwaite then grabbed his second and Town’s third, and then another debutant, Moses Lewis, found the back of the net.

Man of the match Luke Barber teed up Drew Talbot to smash home a volley for number five and Lewis added the sixth direct from a corner.

Barber, who would go on to score four times and set up six, made it 7-0 with a stunning 35-yard effort. There was then a first goal for the club for Jamie Ryan before Harrison McCune slotted home from 10 yards after Ryan Luckhurst’s shot had hit the bar.

Barber’s second and Portland’s 10th stemmed from a fantastic Oliver Carter pass.

A surging run down the left by Luckhurst saw him power the ball in the bottom corner then Talbot scored again with an emphatic finish.

The final score could have been even bigger had the Wool keeper not saved a Jay Judkins penalty before half-time.

There was no let up after the restart as Outhwaite completed his hat-trick and Talbot slammed in his third moments later.

Barber’s third arrived, followed by a second for Luckhurst, and a first of the day for Costello with an effort from all of 25 yards.

Goal number 18 came courtesy of captain Jack Atkins, while Scammell got the next two for his hat-trick.

Lewis notched his third to make it 21-0, Luckhurst followed suit soon after and Town keeper Greg Triplett, who was moved up front, provided the assist for Carter to score with a thunderous strike into the bottom corner.

Luckhurst’s fourth and fifth strikes were Portland’s 24th and 25th goals while Talbot converted from 20 yards to register his fourth.

A double from McCune brought about the seventh hat-trick of the match, Scammell scored two more with help from Martyn Rance, and to complete Wool’s miserable day Judkins found Barber for the 31st and last goal of a remarkable afternoon.
