SCOTT Walker believes a positive result for the Terras this evening would go a long way to putting things right following Saturday’s debacle against Stourbridge.

The 5-0 defeat has left Weymouth reeling but their experienced midfielder is adamant that a big performance against Bideford tonight (7.45pm) could quickly turn things around.

The Devon outfit currently lie fourth in the Southern Premier Division table and will travel to the Bob Lucas Stadium later today full of confidence after a 4-0 victory over Burnham at the weekend.

Commenting on the current mood in the Weymouth camp, Walker told Echosport: “Everyone felt slightly embarrassed after Saturday.

“We went into that game with the right mindset and the right attitude, and the dressing room was buzzing, so to come unstuck like that to a 5-0 hammering was bitterly disappointing.

“It was not a result we expected at all and, if anything, we felt we could be the ones putting them under pressure.

“The camaraderie in the dressing room has been very good of late and it’s important now that we put Saturday’s result behind us and keep our spirits high.

“Tonight’s game against Bideford is one we want to win and it is also a chance to prove a point, particularly after they beat us earlier in the season.

“Bideford have a good team spirit and are on a bit of a roll at the moment.

“They are strong up front and solid at the back but we still believe that we can definitely get something from the game.

“We want to put everything right again and a positive result tonight would go a long way to doing that.”

Walker has also called for patience while the team gels following a spate of new signings.

Niall Thompson and Adam Kelly both made their home debuts against Stourbridge.

Thompson began on the left wing while Kelly was handed a central midfield role alongside George Rigg, another recent acquisition.

Walker added: “Adam has just come in after not having much game time at Tiverton.

“He is a willing to work hard in the middle and I have no doubts that once he and George get it right, they will be very effective.

“They both came up against a very well-drilled Stourbridge captain on Saturday and as a result we got overrun a bit.

“That can happen when three or four new players come into a side and there is no doubt it’s going to take time to gel.

“Niall’s pace would frighten anyone but we didn’t get the ball to him and Luke Burbidge at the right times and because of that they found it difficult to make the sort of impact we know they can.

“It is these types of things we need to work on and in the meantime we need to just all stick together and ride it out.”

Simon Evans, Kyle Critchell, Dave Allen and Mark Ford all remain sidelined for the Terras but Ben Joyce should be available despite coming off with a knee problem on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bideford could include several ex-Weymouth players in their line-up this evening, including Ben Gerring, Stephen Reed, Richard Groves and Craig Duff.
