WIMBORNE WAYFARERS 2 WEYMOUTH 2

WEYMOUTH Ladies had to settle for a point after being held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Wimborne Wayfarers.

The visitors had beaten the home side comfortably earlier in the season but the Wayfarers proved much tougher opposition this time around.

They started strongly, keeping Weymouth in their own half during the early stages of this West Clubs Women’s League East Division fix- ture.

Weymouth eventually managed to move forward and get the ball up the pitch.

Good play between Emily Austin and Chloe Van Crugten led to some chances and a couple of shots on goal were saved by the Wimborne keeper.

But their pressure eventually paid off and Weymouth opened the scoring when a skilful lifted pass by Ann-eka Rogers found Austin and the skipper tucked the ball into the back of the net.

However, Wimborne hit straight back and equalised. Miscommunication in the Weymouth defence led to a home player being left unmarked and she made it 1-1.

Weymouth had several attacks in the early part of the second half with shots from Lara Blundell, Austin and Rachael Bustin going wide.

Wimborne made the most of these misses and they took the lead from a short corner.

The visitors were quick out to the ball and, although a good save by Alice Craven prevented the first shot going in, the second was lifted into the top left corner past Wendy Butcher’s head.

Austin’s side picked up the pace after this, running at Wimborne whenever they had the chance, and creating many attacks.

And midway through the second half the hosts crumbled as Austin fed Bustin with a superb pass and she made it 2-2.

The pressure kept being piled on by Weymouth but despite going close on numerous occasions they couldn’t find that all-important third.
