WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1 TINTINHULL 0

CONOR Jevon netted his first goal for the Terras as they edged out Tintinhull at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

The wet and windy conditions made life tough for both sides but Weymouth just about deserved their win, with the game’s only successful strike arriving two minutes before half-time.

Winning boss Jake Richmond told Echosport: “The conditions were not conducive to a decent game and there were very few chances.

“Our keeper only had a couple of half shots to save and theirs didn’t have a lot to do either.

“We got our noses in front just before half-time with a header from Conor from a corner and, after that, it was just about staying solid and not giving anything away.

“Tintinhull put us under a bit of pressure and made it a battle but we saw it out well in the end and just about deserved it.”

The victory keeps the Terras top of the Dorset Premier League but Richmond’s focus continues to be solely on development.

He added: “We did what we had to do and the fact we have now kept three clean sheets in a row is really pleasing.

“It is also good experience for the youngsters to play in conditions like that and I thought they coped really well.

“The fact we are top also brings a different type of pressure and, again, that also helps with their development.

“As a coaching team, we are not thinking about winning the league, but the players are, and it will be interesting to see how they handle that over the coming weeks.”

Weymouth Reserves now sit five points clear at the summit but title rivals Hamworthy Recreation, Portland United and Merley Cobham Sports all hold two or more games in hand on them.

Terras: Park, J Will (Chatterton 58), Butcher, Anstey, Zima, Asagba (Jackson 75), Harvey, G Will, Preece, Nichols, Jevon (Ford 80).
