JASON Matthews is facing a race against time to get reinforcements in for tomorrow’s home clash against Banbury United (3pm).

The Weymouth boss currently has just 10 senior players to choose from for the Southern Premier Division encounter, which is already in doubt due to the recent wet weather.

The Terras were forced to postpone Burnham’s visit on Tuesday night and with more heavy rain expected over the next 24 hours, there is every chance they may have to call another game off this weekend.

Matthews told Echosport: “I have been told it is going to be extremely doubtful again but we will just have to wait and see.

“If it is on, it might be a case where we will just have to go with what we have got.

“I am still hoping to get someone in on loan and will continue working on that right up until the last minute but, at the moment, there is nothing to report.”

Ashley Wells, Ben Joyce and Mark Ford are all sidelined through injury, Luke Winsper remains a major doubt and Michael Walker is suspended.

Luke Burbidge has also gone on a two-week holiday and is set to rejoin Poole Town on his return.

Matthews added: “Ashley is out for two to three weeks, Ben is making good progress but needs a rest, Luke Winsper is extremely doubtful, and Michael has a one-game ban to serve.

“Tomorrow’s game will also be Jake Green’s last before a three-game suspension and with Luke Burbidge gone now as well, we really are down to the bare bones.

“On a more positive note, Niall Thompson is fit to play and Mark is making excellent progress and could be involved again at some point next week.”

With so many absentees, Matthews may have to look to the reserves to fill the gaps.

Carl McClements, who is still awaiting his first league start, is back available after recovering from illness, but Lee Sharpe is away on holiday.

Weymouth picked up a point at Banbury back in December in what was Matthews’ first game at the helm.

Looking ahead to the return fixture, the experienced keeper said: “We defended very well up at Banbury and we will need to do the same tomorrow.

“They are a good Southern Premier side and, after taking a bit of a hiding at Chesham recently (8-0), they will be keen to bounce back this weekend.”

The Terras, who are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Banbury, currently sit 13th in the table, one point adrift of the Puritans with a game in hand.
