WEYSPORTS celebrated their winter season achievements in style at the Aqua Beach Hotel in Weymouth.

The evening was hosted by club social secretary Chloe Desmond and included a formal presentation, games and certificates.

The club, sponsored by Moby Dick’s, had a successful season in the South and West Dorset League, finishing fourth in division two.

Highlights included the signing of Nicole Birley in the close season and beating her former team early in the campaign.

Other triumphs included a huge win over newcomers JD Wetherspoon and narrow victories against Bennetts and T Bar.

The first prize of the evening, the clubwoman award, was given to Desmond.

She was chosen for the award by her team-mates for not only her role as social secretary, but her dedication and commitment to the club over the past few years.

Since Desmond took on her administrative role in the summer, the social and fundraising side of the club has never been stronger.

“I am honoured to have been voted to receive this award by my team-mates,” she said. “I enjoy organising events as we are one big family.”

The honour of receiving the players’ player award went to new girl Birley, who beat stalwarts Darcy Belle and Becky Vincent to the trophy.

“I was so surprised when my name was called,” said a surprised Birley. “It was great that my team-mates recognised my hard work this season.

“I felt so welcomed from day one and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to play with a team like WeySports.”

A new award, best newcomer, went to young starlet Rebecca Chivers, who joined the club back in the summer.

Chivers was chosen for the prize by the club’s committee because of her endless enthusiasm in training, as well as her progression since joining.

She said: “I am glad I have contributed a lot to the team. I cannot wait for the summer season to start.”

The final award of the night – player of the season – was presented to club captain and long-serving player Darcy Belle.

Belle has shown over the season that she can be versatile in both centre court and defence, and led by example in many matches.

“I am so happy to win player of the season,” she stated. “I love playing for WeySports, ever since my first session four years ago.

“I hope that the A team wins promotion in the forthcoming summer season.”

Coach Juliette Frampton was understandably proud to see her players recognised, adding: “It is one of the best parts of my role to present awards to the players who have shone over the season.

“I am extremely excited for the new season and it is great to have two teams once again in the club.

“We have recruited players of all ages to join our second team and have been training hard.”

The club is still looking to recruit players of any age or ability who can play in defence or centre court.

At present, the players train in the sports hall at Budmouth Sports Centre from 7pm-8pm every Tuesday.
