PHIL Simkin has welcomed the news that Dorchester Town have extended Warren Byerley’s loan from Poole Town.

The striker, now into the second month of his loan spell at the Avenue, has played a key role in the Magpies’ recent upturn in form.

Byerley, pictured, has added extra experience to the squad since joining in January, while also acting as the team’s target man up front.

“Warren is staying for another month,” said county town boss Simkin. “I’ve known Warren for 10 or 12 years and always been a big admirer of his.

“He would be the first to say that injuries have taken their toll on him in the last few seasons, but he is using his experience, technique and strength to make himself a great hold-up player.

“He has been battered week after week by centre-backs but has come through it and done tremendously well.”

Simkin is also confident of holding on to Bournemouth youngsters Charlie Losasso and Jake McCarthy, whose current loan deals are set to expire soon.

While Losasso has grown in stature during his time at Dor-chester, McCarthy is yet to make an appearance for Simkin’s side following an ankle injury.

“If we keep these players together then we’ve got a chance of staying up,” he added. “We are fielding more experienced sides now.

“Charlie would admit he struggled in his first two games but he is a good outlet for us now.”

Simkin confirmed that McCarthy and Harry Bell (ankle) are close to returning to full fitness.
