SCOTT Walker and Ben Joyce are facing a race against time to be fit for the Terras’ clash with Biggleswade Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Both appeared in the midweek defeat to Cambridge City but player-manager Jason Matthews is monitoring the duo’s fitness closely ahead of the Calor Southern Premier fixture.

And while Walker (groin) and Joyce (shin splints) are concerns for Matthews, Ashley Wells (groin) is almost certain to miss out again.

The Terras’ boss also believes that George Rigg’s appearance at Cambridge was his last for the club having signed dual registration forms with Weston-super-Mare.

However, Weymouth are boosted by the return of Michael Walker, Jake Green and Lamar Powell, who were all unavailable on Wednesday night.

And even though the Terras are currently languishing in mid-table, Matthews feels there is still a lot to play for this season.

“There are a lot of points to play for with 15 games left and I don’t want the season to peter out,” he said.

“Players are playing for contracts and I want to drive the club on in the right way.

“There is a lot of hard work going into getting things right for next season and I would like to finish this campaign in the top eight.”

Commenting on what his side needs to put right after their 4-2 defeat in midweek, he added: “We were disappointed with some things and pleased with others.

“I was pleased with how we coped against one of the top sides, which we haven’t done all season.

“I thought there were a few good performances from some of the lads but, at the end of the day, we still conceded four goals.

“We looked quite good going forward but we need to keep the ball better higher up the field.”

He continued: “Scott Walker will be a doubt for Saturday with a groin strain and we’ll have to keep a close eye on Ben Joyce with his shin splints.

“Ashley Wells is struggling with his groin. He is making fairly good progress but it’s another injury that if you bring the player back too soon it could make things worse.”

Biggleswade, 12th in the table, are two places and as many points behind Weymouth.
