FRESH from their win in the first round of the Dorset Novice League, Tornadoes of South Dorset headed to Dorchester for round two.

It wasn’t until a third of the way through the gala that Tornadoes settled and from then on it was between them, Swim Bournemouth and West Dorset as to who would be the winner.

Tornadoes moved into the lead by one point from Bournemouth with 12 races to go and never lost their advantage, extending the winning margin to 15 points by the end of the 44 races.

After getting nine speeding tickets in round one, the team selection for round two was much harder.

Of these nine events, the new swimmers competing in them in round two gained six top-three finishes, while the other three picked up more speeding tickets.

Phoebe Mills came into the 11-and-under 50m freestyle and was given a speeding ticket, as was Phoebe Jones in the 10-and-under 50m backstroke.

There were first places for Abigail Barnes in the 11-and-under 50m breaststroke and Lewis Limm in the 10-and-under 50m freestyle.

Molly Frampton gained a second place in the 11-and-under 50m backstroke and Josh Rowe was placed third in the 14-and-under 50m breaststroke.

Further individual first places came from Tabitha Samouelle (12/u 50m butterfly), Harry Hutchinson (12/u 50m breaststroke), James Faley (11/u 50m freestyle), Freya Stanger (14/u 50m breaststroke), Scott Greaney (14/u 50m freestyle) and Chloe Perkins (12/u 50m backstroke).

The relay teams weren’t to be outdone and produced firsts in the following events:

14/u medley (Emma Perkins, Josh Rowe, Josh Frampton and Kirsty Holmes)

14/u freestyle (Freya Stanger, Kirsty Holmes, Josh Rowe and Josh Frampton)

12/u medley (Josh Rowe, Ollie Mills, Chloe Perkins and Amy Jackson)

12/u freestyle (Ollie Mills, Chloe Perkins, Amy Jackson and Harry Hutchinson)

10/u medley (Jacob Baldwin, Molly Frampton, Max Richardson and Bethany Firth)

In an exciting finale, the final race of the evening, the cannon, a mixed relay of 10 swimmers with a girl and boy from each age group, Swim Bournemouth got off to a great start.

Their lead was gradually cut by Tornadoes, whose final swimmer, Josh Frampton, started his leg six metres behind.

He had a fantastic swim and romped home to win by four seconds.

Summing up the first two rounds, Tornadoes’ coach Bill Babb said: “The swimmers have produced two very good performances and team spirit has been brilliant, led by captains Emma Perkins and Sam Allen.”

After another six speeding tickets and 40 personal bests, Tornadoes can go into the third and final round this month full of confidence as they target a hat-trick of victories.
