WEST Dorset Under-11s are celebrating after winning the six-a-side indoor tournament at the Dorset Cricket Centre.

The team won two of their three games and ended up securing the overall title on a runs-to-wickets ratio.

Captained by Ollie Bareham, West won their first game against North Dorset thanks to an excellent opening partnership between Jamie Stewart and Tom Anderson.

This was capitalised on by Lewis Harrington and the skipper himself to take the score to 147 – they then bowled out their opponents for just 76.

Their only loss of the day came against East Dorset. Bowling first, a tight spell from Conlan O’Toole and outrageous run out by Will Maltby restricted the East to 131.

But the East took wickets throughout the West’s innings to bowl them out for 110.

In their final game, West triumphed over South Dorset as all six players batted excellently to get the team to 203 – their highest score of the day.

Another platform was set by the top order for Bareham and Maltby to finish with a flurry.

West then bowled and fielded superbly to limit the South to 141, with a brilliant one-handed catch from Jamie Stewart wrapping up the victory.

Coach Jack Walklett said: ‘I’m very proud of how the lads played and their attitude on the day.

“I was only appointed the Under-11 coach back in October so this was my first competitive outing with the team, and I couldn’t have asked for a better effort from them.

“Each of the lads contributed with bat, ball and in the field, and special thanks to managers John Harrington and Declan O’Toole for their help on the day.”
