MAGPIES: Kiteley hails ace Hanger
DAVE Kiteley reckons young def-ender Oakley Hanger has got “something special” following his recent performances for the reserves, writes David Williams.
The teenager caught the eye of reserve-team boss Kiteley in the Wyvern Premier League double header against AFC Portchester.
After losing 3-2 in Hampshire last week, Dorchester beat the same opponents 2-0 on Tuesday night to move three points clear at the top of the league.
Kiteley said: “Oakley Hanger has excelled in the last couple of games.
“He has stood out at that level and that tells you the lad has got something special.
“Now he can look to push on from that, the same as Dan Way and Calvin Brooks at the same age.”
On keeper Harry Reynolds, he added: “He is a prospect like Oakley Hanger, and both of them have got bright futures.”
Jack Vallier and Dan Munday got the Magpies’ goals at the Avenue, while Reynolds kept out a penalty and also produced some stunning saves late on to deny the visitors.
Ryan Case and Munday both struck the woodwork in the opening stages as the hosts threatened to secure the victory before half-time.
First-team skipper Mark Jermyn featured on Tuesday in a midfield role, and Steve Walker got a much-needed 90 minutes under his belt.
Magpies: Reynolds, Hanger, Michie, Hilton, S Walker, Jermyn, Smith (Old 85), Way, Munday, Vallier (Pidgley 70), Case. Sub not used: Woodland
