DORCHESTER Town could find out tomorrow whether or not club captain Mark Jermyn will miss the rest of the season through injury.

Jermyn pulled a hamstring during the second half of Monday night’s defeat at Chelmsford, and there are fears he might not play again this term.

The veteran defender suffered the same problem about five years ago – on that occasion it took him around six weeks to recover.

If the prognosis is the same this time then, with the Skrill South season ending on April 26, it would spell the end of his campaign.

However, Jermyn, who will have the injury assessed tomorrow, is hopeful of recovering to play a part in the Magpies’ attempts to stave off relegation.

“It’s sore but I’m not too sure how long it’s going to take to heal,” he said. “The last time it happened it took about six weeks, which wouldn’t be good for us.

“I’m optimistic that I’m a quick healer so hopefully it is not as bad as first thought and I will only be out for up to three weeks.

“It would be nice to finish the season off.”

On the moment the problem struck, he added: “Stuart Heath wasn’t with us on Monday because of work commitments so I took the warm up.

“Usually, if you haven’t stretched properly you feel it straight away, but it happened about 20 minutes into the second half.

“We are defending for our lives at the moment and I over-stretched to stop someone crossing the ball in.

“I got a block on it but as soon as I put my foot down it was like someone had stabbed me in the back of the leg.

“It’s just frustrating. You feel fine in yourself but you just can’t walk.

“I’m gutted that I’m going to miss the next two games against Sutton and Eastleigh, but that’s football unfortunately.”

Jermyn received another yellow card on Monday and, although not his main concern on the night, it is a matter that has been puzzling the skipper.

“I’ve never been booked so many times in a season during my whole career,” he said. “It’s frustrating when you have these things going against you when you’re trying so hard.

“But that’s the nature of football when you are down the bottom.”

Meanwhile, Poole Town have agreed to extend Warren Byerley’s loan by another month, though the Southern League side can recall the striker at 24 hour’s notice if they need him.
