FOOTBALL: Chickens and Upwey meet in Stalls showdown

Dorset Echo: DERBY CRUNCH; Upwey boss Steve Reynolds DERBY CRUNCH; Upwey boss Steve Reynolds

RIVALS Chickerell United and Upwey & Broadwey will lock horns at the Stalls tomorrow (3pm) in a contest that could have major implications on the Dorset Senior League title race.

The reverse fixture was a heated affair back in January, with each side being reduced to 10 men after Chickens’ skipper Liam Miles was given his marching orders, while Upwey captain Phil Anderson followed suit.

Both sides have only lost five games between them in the league this season, with the Chickens sitting just one point adrift of table-topping Westland Sports with 10 games of their season left to play.

But Redlands-based Upwey boast an all important game in hand on the league’s top two and are hot on the heels of those above them, meaning a win this weekend could put Steve Rey-nolds’ men well in the mix to make a late surge as their season rolls on.

Reynolds told Echosport: “It’s obviously a huge game and a local derby. We should never have lost to them 3-2 last time so we will be looking to put things right on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Portland United Reserves, beaten 1-0 by leaders Westland Sports last time out, have home advantage again when they host Sturminster Newton United tomorrow (3pm).

Goals from Matt Camp and James Hansford gave Portland a 2-1 win over Stur when the sides last met in October.

And a win for Chris Hicks’ men this time around could see them move into the top six.

Meanwhile, the Dorset Premier League’s representative team are just one step away from national glory in the FA Inter League Cup.

Manager Matt Morris’ side face up to their Hertfordshire Senior County counterparts in the semi-final at Colney Heath tomorrow (2pm).

Four Portland United players have been selected.

Lewis Whyton Adam Lin-aker, Alex Halloran and Ash-ley Smith are in the squad.
