LYME REGIS SAC

THE best whiting was the target in the first boat competition of the year at Lyme Regis.

Seventeen anglers participated, fishing two charter boats – Pegasus and Blue Turtle.

The event saw some large pout being caught as well as dabs, a smoothound and a thornback ray.

The winner was Barry Moore with a whiting of 1,612 grams.

Brian Moss took second place with a catch of 1,296 grams, while Paul Blake was third with a whiting of 1,098 grams.

Sixteen members of Lyme Regis SAC signed on to fish their latest Saturday shore match at Seaton but due to the weather the match deemed a rover.

The target for this match was to achieve the two best combined specimens.

Only two anglers were able to meet the challenge with congratulations going to birthday boy Tony Bessford who won the match with five points for his dogfish, pout and shore rockling.

Phil Marshall finished in second place with four points for his dogfish and pout; all other anglers scored one point each.

After five rounds, Bessford leads the Saturday Shore League with 11 points; Phil Marshall has seven points with Rob Garth and Matt Parsons close behind on six each.

PORTLAND AC

SEVEN members signed on to fish the fifth shore match of the season at Abbotsbury with only five catching fish to score points in various categories.

Dave Vye took the match with 13 points for first on weight, specimen, for his 94.32 per cent dogfish, species and numbers of fish.

Dave McCune was second with seven points for second on specimen with his dogfish of 72.73 per cent, species and third on weight and numbers of fish.

Noddy Coan took third place for second on weight and numbers of fish with Jason Daft on three points for his third place on specimen and species.

After five matches, McCune leads with 27 points, Steve Goodwin is in second with 17 and Simon Avery and Dave Vye are sharing third place with 14 each.

To date, McCune has the best specimen fish with his flounder of 2lb 4oz 8drs, which is 101.39 per cent of specimen.

WINNING WHITING

WHILE fishing the first Weymouth Angling Society’s monthly boat competition aboard Trad Casey’s Gypsy, Matt Honey landed a whiting of 4lb 4oz, which is 122 per cent of specimen.
