KINGSTON LACY 3 CHICKERELL UNITED 2

CHICKERELL United manager Steve Coward claimed his side has no other option but to win all of their remaining league games, after they suffered defeat at Kingston Lacy.

Goals from Josh Why and Warren White weren’t enough to topple the resilience of Lacy, who found the net through a David Love penalty, Tom McCormack and Jack Mills.

“When you’re fighting for places at the top of the league you cannot afford to have days like that,” Coward told Echosport.

“We were poor and we haven’t played well for a number of weeks now but have managed to scramble wins out of games and get through them, but we were awful at the weekend.

“We’ve spent a whole year getting to where we are now and to perform like that was just disappointing.”

“In the first 10 minutes we came out and we looked alright, but after that we had a number of poor touches and just couldn’t get going.

“The effort of some of them just wasn’t there.

The result means that Chick-erell have lost ground in the Dorset Senior League title-race on leaders Westland Sports, who secured a narrow win at home against Okeford United.

And even though his squad are four points off the pace with a vastly inferior goal difference to leaders Westland, Coward is not ruling his side out of lifting the crown just yet.

He claimed: “When you look at the fixtures, Westland still have some tough games to play and we still have to play them. They also have to go to Sturminster Marshall and get a result, so there is some way to go. We just have to make sure we don’t drop any more points.”
