TERRAS: Mistakes cost Jason’s troops

Dorset Echo: ON TARGET: Stewart Yetton ON TARGET: Stewart Yetton

JASON Matthews claimed his young Terras side need to learn from their mistakes for next season, as his side lost a game they led until the final 20 minutes against Hungerford Town.

Matthews told Echosport: “They are the form side in the league at the moment but I’m disappointed to lose because I thought we contributed to our own downfall.”

Stefan Brown and substitute Harry Goodger turned proceedings upside down as the Crusaders won their seventh league game in a row and ended the Weymouth’s five-game unbeaten run.

Matthews added: “We were controlling the game quite well and it was a really good performance but we gave away two sloppy goals again. I’d pretty much say that was the story of our season.

“It’s obviously the small margins that win the big games and we’ve made a couple of mistakes and we’ve been punished.

“Mistakes could have been eradicated, it was a good ball from the corner, but the lad has had a free header inside the six-yard box and that’s disappointing.

“These are places we need to win 1-0 next year, we’ve lost 2-1 and it’s a sucker-punch and everyone was gutted in the changing room.

“Their manager has said to me that it was a smash and grab win by them, they couldn’t beat us football wise and it changed the way they played. We needed to weather that and adapt.”
