WAREHAM St Mary Primary School bagged a super seven medals at an action-packed Purbeck District Cross Country Championships.

The East Dorset school scooped first place in the Year Four boys’ event, all three podium places in the Year Six boys’ event, and first and third in the Year Six girls’ race.

The event, which saw runners aged eight to 11 taking part, was hosted by Purbeck School, Wareham.

The championship was open to all primary schools in the area for children in Years Four, Five and Six, and attracted some 200 youngsters on the day.

The course was one-mile long and took a double loop around the vast grounds of the Purbeck Sports Centre.

Year Three teacher Sheryl Rawlings, who holds the sports portfolio for the school, said: “I am so pleased with the way the children have embraced sport this year.

“The recent results in the cross country is testament to their focus, dedication and enjoyment.”
