RUGBY: Dorchester bidding for Barbarians win on last day
MARTYN Peel’s Dorchester will look to end their season tomorrow just as they started it, with victory over Ivel Barbarians.
The county town club won the reverse fixture at Coburg Road on the opening day of the campaign 29-13, since when it has been a big struggle for Peel’s troops.
After beating Corsham 10-0 on the second weekend of the season, Dorchester lost 16 and drew one of their following 17 matches in Southern Counties South.
But, with a win at the Barbarians tomorrow, they could at least end a difficult seven months or so on a high.
In the same division, Swanage & Wareham can still sneak fourth place if they collect maximum points at home to North Dorset.
Bridport can’t finish any higher than eighth in Dorset & Wilts One South but they will want to consolidate that position when they host Frome Seconds this weekend.
The Blues triumphed 22-13 against the same opponents on match day one, though Frome are on a three-game winning streak.
There is also home advantage for Dorchester and Weymouth Seconds in Dorset & Wilts Two South.
While fourth-placed Dorchester are looking to complete a league double against Oakmeadians Seconds, Weymouth, in third, will be out for revenge when they entertain New Milton Seconds – the visitors beat the seasiders 25-10 in September.
Meanwhile, Weymouth Thirds take on Gosport & Fareham Thirds in a friendly at Monmouth Avenue. All games kick-off at 3pm.
Dorchester RFC’s family day is being held at Coburg Road on Good Friday (April 18) from 1.30pm and entry is free.
There will be live music, a bouncy castle, hog roast and bar, and at 2pm a Dorchester XV take on a Surcouf XV.
