PHIL Simkin has insisted that even if the Magpies are to go down this season they must continue to fight right to the last.

The Dorchester chief, whose team is on the verge of relegation, wants his players to “put on a show” for the fans in the five games they have left.

Plans for the 2014-15 campaign are already being put in place and Simkin has told Echosport he will be looking to strengthen his squad “considerably” during the summer.

Their fate this term is out of their hands but a strong run-in, starting at home to Farnborough on Saturday (3.07pm), would give the club a much-needed boost going forward.

“We have got to make sure that we don’t take our foot off the gas and we push hard right to the end,” said Simkin.

“I want us to put on a show for our supporters at home.

“It’s going to be a difficult two or three weeks for all of us and we’ll need all the help we can get.

“Should things go as expected and we go down then we’ll have to deal with it.

“It’s happened to better clubs than us and, when you look at it in the cold light of day, it is more important that the club exists rather than what league it is playing in.

“If we go down, we’ll go down fighting, and if we are playing in the Southern Premier next season then we’ll do everything we can to get back.”

He added: “We are already planning for next season. I shall be looking to strengthen the squad considerably in the summer.

“Hopefully I can get the targets I’m looking for.”

Mark Jermyn returns from suspension for the hosts and there is a chance Nick Crittenden will be fit.

Dan Way is set to be in the match-day squad but Jamie Gleeson remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Like other football matches across the country on Saturday, Dorchester’s game with Farnborough will kick-off at 3.07pm following a minute’s silence to mark 25 years since the Hillsborough tragedy.
