WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers held their annual awards night and had plenty to celebrate.

Club records were set by Caila Kirkpartrick in the under-13 girls’ 75m (10.6 seconds), 100m (13.5 seconds) and 150m (20.8 seconds).

In the under-15 boys, Cody Shutter-Levi equalled the previous high jump record of 1.65m and James Tufnail set the 300m record of 40 seconds.

Hannah Westhenry set records in the under-15 girls’ hammer (24.46m) and in the 300m (48 seconds).

While older brother Ben, in the men’s under-20s, claimed the 1,500m record (3.56.06mins) and the club’s best time for the 3,000m steeplechase (9.18.49).

Kevin Archer was ranked second in the over-60s’ 3,000m and fourth in the over-55s’ 1,500m and Pete Clarke was ranked fourth in the over-60s’ 300m hurdles and 10th in the pole vault.

One of the biggest triumphs for the club was Dorothy Fraser, who was ranked first in the over-75 women’s 100m, 200m and 400m along with a second-placed ranking in the shot put.

The junior athletes produced some impressive results in the Sports Hall League as well as the County Championships, with medals won by Kirkpatric, Adel-aide Elsom, Bethany Morrison, Ben Jones, Jules Hollway, Zac Wilson, Maila Brown, Jamiee Brown, Ellie-Mae Carroll and James Tufnail.

Tufnail and Westhenry both won selection for the Dorset under-15 teams at the South West Championships, while Holloway, Carroll, Kirkpatrick, Jones and Holly Anderson represented the county in the under-11s and under-13s.

All of the Dorset teams finished a respectable second or third in the events as well as claiming some impressive individual wins.

Long-time club member Clarke, who is a national tetrathlon multi-event champion and has been coaching at the club for nearly 50 years, presented the awards on the night.

Michael Smith, who has now run more than 160 marathons, was awarded the prestigious TG Copp Cup, presented by club stalwart and chairman Brian Copp.

John Kennedy won the men's Road Running Cup with Michelle Kennedy winning the women's trophy. Meanwhile, Kevin Archer and Fraser were named best senior man and senior woman.

Both of whom have competed in Hungary in the World Masters Championships recently.

For the junior awards, competitor of the year honours went to Tufnail and Hannah Westhenry in the under-15s, Jones and Kirkpatrick in the under-13s and Holloway and Brown in the under-11s.

Holloway was also under-11 newcomer of the year and cross-country competitor of the year.

Ryan Purse was the under-13 cross-country boy of the year and was awarded the Dave Buck Cup.
