TERRAS: No easing up for Matthews
TERRAS’ player-manager Jason Matthews refuses to let his players slip into holiday mode, and claimed they have a job to do against St Neots Town today (3.07pm).
Weymouth have suffered defeat in their last two league outings and with a mid-table finish almost certain, Matthews, pictured, is determined not to let the last five games of their season fizzle out.
He told Echosport: “There are five games left now and it is important that we win as many games as we can.
“I don’t find it hard to get the lads up for a game, it’s their job as footballers and we will be doing our best to get a positive result.
“They are paid to play football and they will need to prove to me that they are worthy of their contracts.”
The last time the two sides met, Weymouth produced a solid display to cap a 2-0 victory and kick-start their campaign on the opening day of the season, thanks to goals from Scott Walker and Mark Ford.
The Terras’ backline will need to be wary of in-form striker Shane Tolley, the Saints’ frontman has racked up five goals in his last three league outings.
And although the Terras hold a nine-point advantage over St Neots in the league table, the visitors have scored more goals and conceded fewer than Matthews’ men so far this term.
