TEN-MAN Aura missed out on becoming the first winners of the Dorset Sunday Intermediate Cup following a 3-1 defeat to Pilot FC in the final at the County Ground in Hamworthy.

The Weymouth outfit trailed 3-0 at half-time and their chances of mounting a stirring comeback in the second period were all but ended when Rory Zima was sent off on the hour mark.

However, they did score a deserved consolation through Jelani Miles-Bell with 15 minutes remaining but couldn’t do anything more to stop Poole-based Pilot lifting the trophy.

Pilot’s name appeared to be on the cup when they took the lead after only four minutes, Paul Nesbit getting the opening goal.

Further strikes from Garry Williams and Marc Jackson followed in a five-minute spell prior to the break to put Pilot in total control.

Aura’s focus will now be on consolidating second place in the Weymouth Sunday League, and they should be able to do that with games against Bakers Arms tonight and Lazy Lizard on Sunday.

Dolphin appear to be their closest challengers for the runners-up spot, they won 2-0 at Sailors Return last time out and entertain Lazy Lizard this evening.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s three other fixtures produced no fewer than 25 goals between them.

Alexandra were the top scorers as they hit Broadmayne for six. Jake Price was on fire with four of his side’s goals in their 6-3 victory, with Luke Murdoch and Jon McKenzie getting the others.

Nine more were scored at Grove Corner where Moby Dick’s edged out Britannia 5-4.

Like Price, Moby’s John Limm found the back of the net four times while substitute Robert Evans got the fifth. Antony Carlile netted a brace for Britannia.

Champions Bar 314 were pushed all the way by one-from-bottom Market House before eventually winning 4-3.

Carl McClements got two of Bar 314’s goals while Phil Ander-son and Les Lewis also netted.
