THE ninth Dorset and Open Schools’ Biathle Relay competition took place at Leweston School in Sherborne, and it was the hosts who finished first in the overall team event with 50 points.

Sixty-three teams, including 189 competitors in total, took part from 21 different schools around the county and South West region.

This year’s competition was run under a different format, with teams completing a continuous run and swim.

And a high standard of competition made for some exciting races throughout an action-packed day.

The effort and enthusiasm displayed by the athletes was excellent and it was also good to see children who would not normally compete in a school team taking part.

All of the competitors made the day one to remember and it has been confirmed that there will be a Dorset Schools’ Biathle Relay in the spring of 2015.

Organiser Michael Flaherty will also be organising the following competitions and training events, which will be held at Leweston School over the coming months:

Sunday, May 18 – South West Schools’ Biathle

Sunday, June 22 – National Schools’ Biathle

Leweston School’s summer biathle/triathlon/tetrathlon training camp will be held between Tuesday, August 5 and Sunday, August 10.
