MAGPIES: Jermyn in dark over contract talks

Dorset Echo: WAITING ON NEWS: Mark Jermyn WAITING ON NEWS: Mark Jermyn

MARK Jermyn says he feels there is no reason for him to leave Dorchester Town this summer, but he knows that the final decision on his future at the Avenue is ultimately out of his hands.

The veteran defender turned 33 last week and is keen to add to his 600-plus games in the black and white of the county town club.

But he has told Echosport that formal talks over a possible new deal have yet to take place, leaving him with some uncertainty as to where exactly he will be playing his football next season.

“I don’t know what’s happening at the mom-ent,” he said. “I spoke to the manager about two months ago and he said he wanted me to stay.

“I’ve spoken to Stuart Heath and the chairman and they are keen for me to stay, but since then there haven’t really been any developments as such.

“At this stage, for the first time at Dorchester, I don’t know whether I’m coming or going.

“I thought something might have been done by now but for whatever reason it hasn’t, so I’ll see what happens. If it’s my time and the manager feels he wants to go in another direction, that’s fine.

“Once we get Saturday’s game out of the way then maybe the conversations might start.

“I’m starting a family and with all of that to consider as well it’s something I’m keen to get sorted pretty soon.”

He added: “I have never wanted to leave. I always thought I would finish my playing career at the club.

“Even when the club has had hard times in the past I’ve never wanted to leave.

“I don’t see any reason for me to leave because I think my playing attributes speak for themselves and I’ve been skipper for a number of years.

“People look to me to lead and I’m happy to do so, but at the end of the day it’s up to the manager and what he decides to do.

“I totally appreciate the fact I’m not a spring chicken but I’m still one of the fittest players in our team and my performances speak for themselves.”
