RUGBY: Lloyd leads the fun at Dorchester
SOME 20 years after organising the last one, former Dorchester RFC forward Lloyd Surcouf arranged a special fundraising match at Coburg Road.
The grandfather, who played in the front row for Dorchester until he was 47, led the Lloyd Surcouf Veterans XV against a Dorch-ester Select XV in glorious sunshine at the county town venue.
Now 68, Surcouf’s team also included his son, son-in-law and two grandchildren, Josh and George, as well as a host of ex-Dorchester players.
The Select XV were two tries better off in the end but the result was largely irrelevant as a crowd of around 400 enjoyed the skills on show and a barbecue, hog roast, live music and bouncy castle.
And the plan is to stage the same event next year after proving to be a huge success this time around.
“There were family connections within both teams and a lot of the older players played with their sons,” said Sur- couf, who coaches the club’s forwards. “It was a fantastic day.
“It was all to raise funds for the club because, like all clubs, Dorchester needs money to keep going.
“It was a great family event and the weather was superb as well.
“And, as everybody enjoyed it, they have asked me if I can do it again next year.”
