COACH Hugh Lawes has welcomed the local community to get involved with Weymouth Cricket Club’s youth set up.
The Redlands outfit, who have teams for under-9s, under-11s, under-13s and under-15s, offered free indoor coaching sessions to Year Three and Four pupils at local schools and have now moved outside to train at Wey Valley School on Wednesday evenings.
"We gave all the information to the local schools about the free sessions and had a great response,” Lawes said.
“Kids from seven different schools attended and they can now all bat, bowl and field, which is all you need to enjoy your cricket.
“They have all joined the club, but we are always welcoming more youngsters to come along and get involved.”
The Weymouth under-13s train in the nets from 5.30 until 7pm and the under-15s train from 6.30 until 8pm. While the younger sections play soft-ball cricket on the playing field from 5.30 until 7pm.
The Seasiders are also planning a Family Fun Day to be held Redlands on May 25.
