UPDATE: MAGPIES: Alan Walker-Harris pens one-year deal at the Avenue
PLAYER of the year Alan Walker-Harris has given Dorchester Town a huge boost by signing a new contract with the county town club.
The experienced goalkeeper joins Jake Smeeton, Nick Crittenden and Jamie Gleeson in committing to another season at the Avenue.
Magpies’ boss Phil Simkin is thrilled that Walker-Harris has decided to stay as Dorchester prepare to step down to the Southern Premier League following their relegation from the Conference South.
“It’s something he thoroughly deserves after a great season for us,” said Simkin.
“I signed Tim Sandercombe last summer but Alan came back supremely fit and it was only a matter of time before he won the jersey back.
“Alan is very popular at the club and he is another senior player who has committed to us for the next year.
“We are going into a lower league but we have a side that has Conference players like Alan, Jake, Critts and Glees at its core.”
And Simkin is also keen for young keeper Shane Murphy to remain with the club and continue his development alongside Walker-Harris.
Simkin added: “We have spoken to Shane and we want him to stay and work with Alan.
“He is a really fit lad and is going to be a very good keeper.
“He made his debut in the last game of the season and distinguished himself with a superb save.”
As for Walker-Harris, he was more than happy to pen his new one-year deal following a standout season in a struggling side.
“I didn’t really want to leave the club so it’s nice to get it sorted,” he said.
“Phil was keen to get it done early and it’s nice to know that you’re appreciated at a club.
“It’s good to know that I’m going to be around the club for at least another season.”
