TRIPURBECK athletes represented Great Britain in the European Duathlon Champ-ionships in Horst, Netherlands and came away with medal success.

In the sprint event, Derek and Sharon Bardsley were both racing in the 60-64 categories with Sharon hoping to go one better than the silver she won in 2013.

A storming first 5km run of 20 minutes 38 seconds took her away from her rivals and a strong bike leg in windy conditions gave her an unassailable lead as she claimed the gold medal in one hour 15 minutes, three minutes faster than last year.

Derek also finished an excellent sixth place in the men’s race.

In the long distance event, Fran Bun-gay’s 65 minute 15km run put her in second position behind Denmark’s Melina Olsen.

A strong bike split from the TriPurbeck athlete stretched her advantage from the German athlete in third and she was able to secure the silver medal on the second run to put down an excellent early season marker.

The club are also running a junior triathlon at Milton Abbey School on May 17.
