DORCHESTER Bowls Club has opened its outdoor green in preparation for the outdoor season.

Gill Slade, chairperson of the Friends of Julia’s House, Dorchester branch, accepted an invitation to officiate at the opening.

Slade, pictured, who delivered the first bowl of the season, spoke of her involvement with Julia’s House and thanked the president, Stan Harland for choosing Julia’s House as his, and the club's, charity for this year.

Harland hopes to raise £5,678 to finance the entire services of Julia's House for one day - an extremely ambitious target but one he hopes the membership will respond to.

The president said that Dorchester Bowls Club is proud of its strong links within the community both in terms of its youth and schools programme, supporting people with disabilities and the newly-established Business League.

Dorchester is an ambitious club – the Championship team won the County Championship League last year – and hope to repeat that achievement this season.

If you are interested in playing, either as an individual or entering a team in the Business League, then contact the club secretary on 260817 or just call in to the club.
