PHIL Simkin has expressed his delight after swooping to sign not one, but two, new strikers in the shape of Dan Cann and Ben Joyce.
The duo join the Magpies on one-year contracts and Dorchester boss Simkin says there are more deals in the pipeline.
It is understood that Cann, who moves from Poole Town, was a target for rivals Wey-mouth before being tempted to the Avenue.
Simkin is thrilled to land the former Dolphins’ skipper and he is also buoyed at capturing the signature of ex-Terras’ forward Joyce.
Scoring goals was a huge issue for Dorchester this season, but the addition of two experienced centre forwards is something Simkin is really excited about.
“I’ve known Dan for about 10 years and he is a terrific player,” he said. “He is a strong and powerful front man and I’ve got no doubts that he will do very well for us.
“He scores goals and makes as many as he scores, and he has got an incredibly long throw which is a bonus.
“He is someone I didn’t think would become available, I thought he would be at Poole for the rest of his career.
“But I was tipped off last week that he was on the market and I got in there quickly.
“I’m delighted he has signed and I look forward to working with him.
“He is a winner.”
Cann, who scored more than 50 times for Poole in over 200 apperances, took to Twitter to thank the Tatnam outfit for their support and “some amazing memories”.
He also added that he was “very happy” to join a club with “big ambition”, describing his move as a “great new challenge”.
While Cann is set to renew acquaintances with the Dolphins when his new team faces his old one in the Southern Premier League next term, the same can be said for Joyce.
He managed just three league goals for the Terras in a campaign that was hit by injury and which was brought to a premature end due to shin splints.
Commenting on his attributes, Simkin added: “Ben is a quality footballer and a great technician, and he can play as a striker or just off the front man.
“I’m delighted he has signed and joined what is now becoming a very strong squad.
“My priority was to bring in front players and I’ve landed two quality front players.”
