MORE than 50 Dorset Pentathletes took part in the South West Biathle Championships at Leweston School, Sherborne.

The team enjoyed great success after capturing four individual gold medals, five silver and six bronze.

Daisy Davies finished first in the girls’ 12-and-under event, while Bradley Sutton won gold in the boys’ 16-and-under category.

Harry Lane crossed the line first in the junior men, while Emma Fisher claimed the prize in the masters’ women over-40 section.

The event consisted of a run/swim/run competition with distances comprising of 500m to 1,500m run, 50m to 200m swim followed by the same distance run again, the distances varied with each age group.

This year’s event saw some of the toughest competition to date where competitors had to endure cold and windy conditions.

Team coach Mick Flaherty said: “This was an excellent start to the season for the Dorset Pentath-letes Biathle team with 23 athletes taking part in their first biathle competition, and all the team doing well in very difficult opposition.

“Once again, the team gave each other great support throughout the event.

“The club also had 35 competitors achieving qualifying times for the World Tour Biathle events, which shows the excellent standard of the Dorset athletes.

“The team is looking in good shape for the forthcoming sea- son and have got off to an excellent start, and good preparation for the British Biathle series with the first race at Millfield School.”
