CRICKET: Lewis is ready for T20 show
WICKETKEEPER batsman Lewis McManus will be representing Dorset against his current Hampshire team-mates in a double-header of T20 matches taking place at Dean Park today (12.30pm).
The 19-year-old, who represented England under-19s over the winter, came through the Hampshire academy system from the age of 16, but grew up in and played youth cricket for Dorset, and he will represent the minor county against his current employers.
“It’s going to be a good opportunity for me to get some runs and I’m sure the Dorset guys will put on a good game and we will see how well we can do,” McManus, pictured, told Echosport.
“I’m pretty committed with the Hampshire stuff but when I get the chance I really like playing for Dorset, obviously that’s where I started off so I really enjoy playing three-day and one-day cricket for them when I can.
“To play at Dean Park where I played a lot of age group cricket when I was younger will be a proud moment and a good challenge against a strong Hampshire team.”
The youngster also comes into the game on good form as he racked up scores of 108 and 106 not out against Cardiff MCCU earlier this week.
When asked what reception he will get from his Hampshire colleagues when he comes out to bat, he added: “Not many of the lads actually know I’m playing for Dorset yet so they will be pretty surprised when they see me there.”
