IT will be party time at Grove Corner tomorrow as Gary Bailey’s men receive their Dorset Premier League trophy, but the Blues’ boss insists the champagne will be on ice and they will do all they can to defeat Merley Cobham Sports (3pm).

Bailey’s champions will welcome back Ed Bastic and Carl Mutch to the group, and Adam Linaker could be fit to feature from the start.

“We have had good support all season and hopefully the fans will come down,” the manager told Echosport.

“We always get good gates but hopefully with other local football not being on around the area, others will come down and support the lads in their final game of the season.”

And although Portland’s league crown was wrapped up against Mere Town on Monday, the title-winning chief is keen to end their illustrious campaign with another success.

He claimed: “There is no other thought in our minds, we want to go out with a win and Merley are coming to us with the chance of getting second place, so we will certainly make a game of it.

“It’s not in our make up to go out there and not try to win, we will be giving it a good go for sure.”

Club captain and, scorer of Monday’s winner, Lewis Whyton will be assessed on the day as to whether he can feature from the bench once again as his injury concerns continue.

Bailey also claimed that as soon as a professional job was carried out against Merley, the celebrations could then begin.

“I think we are all going out,” he added. “We will have a few beers in the bar upstairs and I expect we will all head off for a few quiet ones after that, the lads well and truly deserve it.”
