DAN Belt has sent out a message to the rest of the teams in the Dorset Premier Two picture that his Dorchester troops are striving to win the league “by a long way” as their quest continues at home against Blandford tomorrow (1pm).

Dorchester got off to a dream start to their season when they posted a mammoth total of 241 against Shroton on a damp wicket last weekend, and then skittled out their hosts for just 40 in reply.

Belt believes the result put down a marker to the rest of the league and the skipper is looking for more of the same tomorrow.

The all-rounder told Echosport: “Going out and hitting nearly 250 on a wet wicket and bowling a team out for next to nothing does send out a statement that we are here to win this league and win it by a long way.

“My aim was to put a bench mark out there and show that we mean business and that we want to get back into Premier One.

“All we can do is go out and try to perform in the same way this week, it will be different conditions again but hopefully we will get the same kind of result.”

The Dorchester skipper is confident that if his side perform to their capabilities with bat and ball, the results should look after themselves.

“It’s just a case of focusing on ourselves and do what we do best,” he added.

“I know what our bowlers are capable of and the pitch helped us out last week, it’s just a matter of trying to get ourselves in the best possible position.

“If we bat first we will always try to bat the overs, 50 overs is a long time so it’s just a matter of being patient.”
