THE season got off to a flying start with the Go Spike League attracting more than 40 players of all standards.

The A competition was very closely fought with players such as Steve Nation-Grainger, Elliott Sawyer, Craig Bishop and Jules Stout battling through to the latter stages.

However, the final was a clash between Dave James and Rob Oblowski, who was making his debut in the league, against Dom Cosserat and Rob Semmence.

The match was a tight game throughout with no side being able to establish a significant lead.

It finally came down to the last few points, which were snatched with power hitting by Cosserat and Semmence and they took the first title of the season 21-19.

The B Series competition was also closely fought with many of the up and coming young players showing they will be a major threat in the coming weeks.

However, the final was between the slightly more experienced pairs of Nick Coughlan and Dan Cree and Ashley Smith and Luke Barnett.

This was another close final but Cree and Coughlan came through to win 15-11.

The first four-a-side event was also held for beginners and this competition was won by Wey Valley who defeated Portland Academy in the final.

Each of these three competitions can be entered every week by registering on the beach between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday evening next to the Boat Cafe.
