DORCHESTER’S Jack Corbin, 12, triumphed at the regional finals of the School of Excellence.

Young bowlers from all over the South West of England competed in the finals, held at the ISCA Indoor Bowls Club at Exeter, and Dorset topped the junior section (under-15s).

Corbin, who only took up the sport two years ago, gained top spot with a total of 75 points, made up of 25 from the round-robin singles section and 50 from the skills section.

Just one point behind, with 74 points, came fellow club member Louise Woodrow, 14.

Corbin and Woodrow had also finished first and second in the county event, results that gave them the opportunity to represent Dorset at the regional finals.

And, following their success in Exeter, they will represent the South West at the national finals later this year in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

Third place in the junior section went to another Dorset bowler, Finlay Hansford from the Dolphin Club (Poole), who gained 71 points, and fourth was claimed by Somerset bowler Shannon Grouch, with 69 points.

The senior section (under-18s) was topped by Devon bowler Liam Crawford (81 points), followed by Jack Groves of Somerset (77) and Jordan Saunders of Cornwall (72).

In fourth, also with 72 points, was Dorset and Moonfleet ace Ryan Nash, who is hoping his performance will be enough to give him a place at the national finals in Leicestershire.
