CRICKET: Weymouth out to break their duck

Dorset Echo: WELCOME RETURN: Will McKay WELCOME RETURN: Will McKay

WEYMOUTH v POOLE

SEASIDERS’ skipper Kieron Womble has urged his side to break their duck against Poole tomorrow, in what is set to be their first home encounter this season (1pm).

The skipper welcomes back Will McKay into the fold and gives medium pacer Andy Jones his first taste of action in the first XI this season.

The Redlands outfit suffered two losses to Poole during last summer, with a brutal 153-run defeat on the opening day at Red-lands and a three-wicket setback at Poole Park in July, but Womble is keen to put things right and cap an overdue victory over their rivals.

“I don’t think we have beaten them for quite a while and it would be nice if we can break the hoodoo so to speak,” he added.

“We are going into the game with a winning mentality, it has been so long since we beat them but the spirit after last week’s performance was superb and if we perform well, hopefully we can get another win.”

And on a Redlands wicket that was a joy to bat on producing more than 450 runs when the Seasiders’ Seconds took on Portland Red Triangle last week, Womble is keen for his side to kick on and produce a big total.

He added: “It’s always a good wicket there and our batting is slowly coming together, we need our batsmen to fire and I will be looking for some standout performances like Dan Hutchens’ last week.

“We can bat all the way down the order and we need everyone to chip in to boost our scores.”

On youngster Jones’ inclusion, the captain added: “He did really well last week and has been working hard and doing well in training, we are trying to give everyone a chance in the first team and he deserves a shot.”

Seasiders: Lawes, McKay, Janaway, Payne, Womble, Browne, Trotter, Hutchens, Pearce, Ryan, Jones
