DORCHESTER v BERE REGIS

DORCHESTER skipper Dan Belt cannot wait to get underway at the Rec tomorrow at what will hopefully be the third time of asking, as he prepares to lead his troops into a derby-day battle against Bere Regis (1pm).

The Dorchester first XI are yet to bowl or face a delivery at home this season, with the weather foiling their opening two encounters against Blandford and Sher-borne, and Belt is eager to take to the field in what promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.

Pete Phillips, who made an unbeaten 63 on his first-team debut last weekend, is unavailable, but that is not going to dampen the captain’s spirits over the job in hand.

“Everyone is keen to play at home to be honest, no one has really played there and it’s a big game,” he told Echosport.

“We had training on Tuesday and there was still a bit of grass on the wicket, hopefully there will be a bit of sunshine and we can get the covers off and let it dry out a bit more.

“I think it will be a normal slow, low wicket but we are just keen to play at home in general to be honest.”

And in leading his side against some familiar faces in the Bere Regis ranks, who sit just one spot below Dorchester in the Premier Two table, Belt knows that it will be a good examination of his side’s ability.

He added: “Obviously we know a lot of their team so there are a few bragging rights at stake, they have a lot of all-rounders and certainly have players who can win them games. We just have to go and concentrate on our own game really.

“We bounced back well last week after the Wimborne & Cole-hill game two weeks ago, and we need to kick on from here now, we need to show we mean business to get out of this league.”
