WORLD number one William Fox-Pitt produced a dominant display on the opening day of the Equi-Trek Bramham International Horse Trials in Yorkshire.
The Sturminster Newton-based rider leads the CIC three-star section on his 2013 European Championship bronze medal-winning ride Chilli Morning, and lies fourth aboard Freddie Mac in the CCI three-star.
The first of two dressage days was highlighted by Fox-Pitt's performance with Chilli Morning.
Their score of 31.5 penalties put them almost 12 clear of this year's Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials runner-up Oliver Townend, who lies second overnight on Black Tie II.
Emily King, daughter of multiple British Olympian Mary King, is third with Mr Hiho, just ahead of another British combination in Ruth Edge and Hip Hop Hero.
Belgium's Karin Donckers, meanwhile, is the CCI three-star leader after posting a dressage score of 38.5 on Lamicell Unique, putting her clear of New Zealander Mark Todd (Amacuzzi) and Irish challenger Aoife Clark (Fenyas Elegance).
