DEFENDER Sam Poole has not ruled out the possibility of playing for Weymouth next season.

Poole says his position at the Terras is still “up in the air” after he was unable to agree terms on a new deal.

The 22-year-old claims the club told him at the end of last season that changes were going to be made to a two-year contract he was on at the time.

He was then given the option of renegotiating a fresh 12-month deal or discussing his future with other clubs if an agreement couldn’t be reached.

“When Brendon King was in charge I agreed a two-year deal at the start of last season,” said Poole.

“At the end of this season, I was handed a letter from the club saying there were going to be some changes to my contract and because of these they would agree to release me from it.

“As a result of that I was free to renegotiate a completely new deal with Jason (Matthews) and if we couldn’t come to an agreement I could discuss my future with other clubs.

“I was a bit shocked when I received the letter because I had agreed a two-year deal with Brendon and thought that would stand for the coming season as well.

“I have spoken to Jason about a new deal but unfortunately we couldn’t come to an agreement.

“I can’t say where my future lies at the moment, things are a bit up in the air.

“There is a still a chance I could be a Weymouth player next season.”

He added: “It’s a bit disappointing it had to come to this but it’s one of those things that happens in football.

“If I am a Weymouth player next season then I’ll have to sit down with the chairman, sort this out, and we can put it behind us.

“I’m a local lad and will always have that desire to want Weymouth to do well.”

The club had stated that Poole turned down the offer of a revised and improved deal, though the player says it was “on pretty similar terms” as his old one.

The club can not do this, in fact Sam Poole has grounds to contact the FA, you can't terminate a contract or make changes unless a gross misconduct charge has occurred or any clauses are inserted. Sam has been loyal and could of gone to a lot of other clubs.
