ATHLETICS: County crowns for soaring Harriers

WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers came away with some excellent results from the Dorset County Athletics Championships, including some county titles and many personal best performances.
Top performer for the under-13 girls was Caila Kirkpatrick who won gold in the shot put (6.96m) and discus (21.48m) and silver medals in the 100m (13.8secs) and 200m (28.8secs) as well as fifth place in the 70m hurdles (13.3secs).
Ben Jones won gold in the under-13 boys’ 200m (28.6secs) and the javelin (18.88m), while Robert Hunter took bronze in the under-13 boys’ javelin (13.47m).
Ryan Purse stormed to the under-13 boys’ 1,500m title, winning by 60m in a time of 5.07.7mins.
Nial Turner took fourth place and gained a pb in the under-15 boys’ 1,500m (5.02.4mins) while older brother Aiden was fifth in the under-17 men’s 3,000m (10.34mins).
Top medal haul went to Hannah Westhenry who picked up five medals in the under-17 women’s events.
She won silver in the 80m hurdles (15.2secs), javelin (21.75m) and the high jump (1.40m) and bronze in the 300m (47.4secs) and hammer (33.29m) as well as gaining fourth in the 300m hurdles (54.6secs).
Second claim athlete James Tufnail, who also represents Dorchester, won gold in the under-15 boys’ 100m, 200m and 300m as well as silver in the javelin.
