WEYMOUTH SECONDS 183-8 (6pts) lost to DORCHESTER SECONDS 184-5 (19pts) by 5 wickets

DORCHESTER came out on top in the first Ridgeway derby of the summer in County Division Two, beating rivals Weymouth by five wickets at Redlands.

Despite losing the toss on a good wicket, the visitors were disciplined with their bowling and fielding, and they managed to restrict Weymouth to 183-8 in 45 overs.

Dorchester’s younger bowlers were particularly impressive, taking important wickets and being economical at the same time.

In reply, the visitors started their run chase quickly, scoring 50 in the first seven overs and laying a great platform for the rest of the innings.

Greg Holland scored a very fluent 47 and after he went the innings was held together by Steve Clifford who batted fantastically for an unbeaten 88, ensuring Dorchester won the game with more than 10 overs to spare.

Not only was the win Dorchester’s first of the campaign but it took them off the foot of the table and sent their neighbours to the bottom of the standings.

Dorchester are away to Portland Red Triangle this Saturday while Weymouth are without a game.
