WEYMOUTH Cougars FC’s annual presentation day took place at the Marsh Sports Ground and once again proved to be a huge success as the club enjoyed a glorious summer’s day, culminating in the awarding of the individual accolades for last season.

Cougars’ chairman Chris Palmer spoke of the successes both on and off the pitch and the marvellous efforts of the fundraising teams within the club, as well as adding a special word of thanks to the sponsors.

Many people gave up their spare time to help with the various events throughout the year and a special tribute was paid to all those who helped make the Cougars’ Summer Sixes tournament an outstanding success.

The event has once again secured the club’s financial future for next season.

Palmer was also keen to point out that many people during the course of the campaign had contributed to the club’s success, and he thanked all the players, parents, managers and helpers for their efforts.

The awards were presented to those individuals who achieved personal excellence, but Cougars continues to measure success by the number of youngsters playing and enjoying their football within the club.

Four trophies were awarded to each team and medals were given to all players who represented the club during the 2013/14 season, including the mini-kickers, who the club hope will form the nucleus of Cougars’ league teams for many years to come.

Every year a special trophy is kindly donated by the parents of the late John Clarke and the recipient of this year’s outstanding achievement award was Andy Harris.

In accepting the award, Harris spoke about the importance of securing the Marsh as a sporting venue for future generations, and of the need for the local community to work together in bringing this to fruition.
