BLANDFORD v DORCHESTER

QUENTON Miller and Will Caldwell are back in the Dorchester starting line-up for tomorrow’s big trip to Blandford (1pm).

Their return couldn’t come at a better time for the county town outfit with captain Dan Belt eager for his batsmen to back up the bowlers following their excellent performances of late.

Dorchester’s displays in the field have been the inspiration behind a run of form which has seen them win their last four league fixtures.

Matt Porter and Greg Holland are the men dropping out from the side that beat Shroton last Saturday – Holland is set to play for the seconds against Wimborne & Colehill Thirds at Dorchester Rec in Division Two.

As for the first XI, they are just a point adrift of league leaders Sherborne and one ahead of Martinstown, and Belt is desperate to take as many points into the second part of the season – after the league splits in two – as possible.

And having Miller and Caldwell returning to the ranks is a welcome boost for the buoyant skipper.

“It’s a big plus for us to have Quenton and Will back,” he said. “They are two big players with a lot of experience.

“Our bowling and fielding have been winning us games lately so hopefully our batsmen can step up to the plate now.”

He continued: “It has been a team effort among the bowlers and we have all been taking wickets.

“I’ve taken four in a game, so has James Dunham and Eamonn Scott, and our spinners have been chipping in as well.”

With Sean Fitzgerald out for the season with a dislocated thumb, youngster Josh Foot has taken over behind the stumps.

“Josh is new to it so he is still learning and we’re trying to keep his confidence up,” added Belt.

“It’s a learning curve for him and we try to back him up as much as possible.

“We haven’t got Sean for the rest of the season so hopefully Josh can make the position his own.”

Elsewhere in Premier Two, Bere Regis go to Wimborne & Colehill Seconds, Martinstown visit Shroton and Sherborne entertain Broadstone Seconds.
