CRICKET: Dorchester take scalp of leaders Cattistock

Dorset Echo: FIVE-WICKET HAUL: Pete Horne FIVE-WICKET HAUL: Pete Horne

DORCHESTER SECONDS 136 (17pts) beat CATTISTOCK 71 (5pts) by 65 runs

DIVISION Two leaders Cattistock were beaten for the first time this season as another five-wicket haul from Pete Horne helped Dorchester to their fourth win on the bounce.

Stuart Beasley’s visitors were asked to bat first after losing the toss and the county town side didn’t get off to a great start when the returning Rhys Cole was caught behind for only six.

Greg Holland was next to go, bowled for 11, before Marcus Evans and Mike Peak set about trying to steady the ship.

But the partnership had only added one when Evans was caught for 20.

However, skipper Beasley and Peak put on 51 for the next wicket until the former fell to the Cattistock spin.

Peak batted for well over an hour for his 39 but the last six batsmen managed just eight runs between them due to some very good bowling.

Dorchester may have been all out for 136 but after defending 140 the previous week they were confident of doing it again.

And they nearly had the perfect start to the Cattistock reply when Peak got one of the hosts’ openers to edge the first ball of the innings.

Unfortunately, the chance went down but Peak did get the breakthrough when bowling their number two for four.

Horne and Beasley then came on to bowl and Peak took two wickets in two balls in his first over.

A great bit of fielding by Matt Porter produced a run out and, in the end, only two Cattistock batsmen reached double fig- ures.

Horne finished with figures of 5-12 and Beasley took 3-16, both from eight-over spells.

“This was an amazing win for the team,” said Beasley. “We have now won four on the bounce and the team have deserved every win. Okay, we need to hit a few more runs, but our bowling and fielding has been amazing.

“Pete Horne has taken five wickets in his last two games and they couldn’t have come at a better time as we had a poor start to the season.

“We have Beaminster next and will prepare like we have for all our games and hopefully get full points.”
