JASON Matthews admitted after last night's 6-0 thumping of Chard Town that he would have liked some “slightly stronger opposition” for the Terras’ third pre-season outing – but he was happy to see his men continue their prolific form in front of goal.

Weymouth have scored 14 goals in their three friendlies so far, with Adam Kelly bagging himself a hat-trick at Chard – Ashley Wells, Chris Shephard and Stewart Yetton also found the net against the Western League outfit.

Player-boss Matthews sat out the match to cast an eye over Kyle Moore, a keeper who had a spell with Hereford United last season.

Reflecting on another big pre-season win, Matthews said: “There were a couple of really good goals in Adam’s hat-trick and I thought Chris had an outstanding game as well. His quality really told on a small pitch and I’m really pleased that he has come to the club.

“It looks like Tim Sills has shaken off the virus he had and he showed me what he is all about. Kyle did very well with his distribution, though he didn’t have too much to do.”

He added: “On the whole it was good, but we could have done with some slightly stronger opposition, though to be fair Chard gave it their all.

“We’ll move on to Saturday against Plymouth and that will be the start of the business end of our pre-season.”
